Solo VII

Solo VII

Besides longer evening programmes, Krisztina de Châtel also makes pure dance pieces in which she concentrates on the specific qualities of her dancers. De Châtel made Solo VII for Suzan Tunca.

Her body is one great contrast of tensions: the unruly limbs do everything she wants them to. She wants to break free of the (accepted) form. Her walk can be beautifully supple and feminine, but she displays impressive force when an arm darts off, a head thrashes sideways or a hand resists. Life is not ‘easy’ as the disjointed ‘Summertime’ by Gershwin would like us to believe. (de Volkskrant)
